For me, it was all about the songs and the stories. The 2008 AEE Southeast Conference theme was Building Communities, and the fantastic group of students and professionals that gathered for the conference lived up to this theme. Jim Cain's Playnote brought everyone together and filled the YMCA Camp Greenville lodge with song and laughter. Mitch Barrett's music and stories enchanted us, and the Steep Canyon Rangers bluegrass tunes compelled us to dance until late into the evening. Bob Martin and Mitch Barrett's workshops on building community through stories opened my eyes to the healing power of story and song, and Ciara Logli, Shilpa Reddy, and Travis Herbert's diversity workshops emphasized the importance of hearing each individual's unique story. Like most gatherings, however, much of the magic happened on the sidelines: conversations over a deliciously prepared local meal, tips and stories exchanged on a walk to scenic Pretty Place, and email addresses exchanged so that the sharing of stories could continue. If you have a conference story or pictures you would like to share, please send them to Scott at sdmoulto@uncc.edu - thanks.
